On a Saturday morning in early November, over 150 kids in the Las Vegas area got what they needed for school. Clark County, E-Commerce company Zappos.com, and Shoes That Fit pitched in to give new shoes, school supplies, food, and sports equipment at the Bob Price Recreation Center.

The day started with a pancake breakfast courtesy of Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, who was also on hand to serve! After being given new shoes from the STF team, kids walked through the Zappos for Good trailer, where they picked out clothes and school supplies.

A boxing ring was also set up in the center of the gym for boxing demonstrations and this was where professional boxer Ava Knight, who held the IBF female flyweight title from 2011 to 2012 and has challenged for world titles in three weight divisions, talked to the kids about her challenges as a female boxer and what motivated her to reach her goals.

The kids also got to see Ricardo Laguna! Ricardo is a professional BMX rider and a reality tv show host.

“New shoes can make a big difference to anyone, and especially to a growing kid,” Commission Chairman Marilyn Kirkpatrick said. “Most of these shoes go to the youth at Center Ring Boxing, who are working hard in school and giving back to our community by tutoring others.”
