Frequently Asked Questions

What is Shoes That Fit?

Shoes That Fit is an award winning, national 501(c)(3) nonprofit that tackles one of the most visible signs of poverty by providing a brand new pair of shoes to kids in need. We are located in Claremont, California, but help children in all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Learn more.

How do I start a fundraiser through Shoes That Fit?

After filling out an information form, you will be contacted within 48 hours by a team member at Shoes That Fit who will help create a personalized fundraising plan that includes an online fundraising page on our crowdfunding platform, GiveSmart. Fundraisers start at 30 pairs of shoes (for approximately one class), and can be as large as an entire school or district.

Once your fundraiser is complete, we will work with teachers and educational partners to measure students’ feet, source the needed shoes, and deliver these shoes to students in need.

How do I determine a goal amount for my fundraiser?

We'll work with you to come up with a number that is motivating and achievable! The minimum amount for a fundraiser is $900, which will provide approximately 30 pairs of shoes (we are immensely grateful to our partners that help make this low cost possible!).

Are donations tax deductible?

Shoes That Fit is a registered 501(c)(3) charity, and for most households a charitable donation is tax deductible. A tax receipt will be provided automatically for monetary donations made online through your fundraising page. Shoes That Fit’s Federal Tax ID number is 95-4425565.

Can I participate in delivering shoes to kids?

While there may be occasions where you are able to participate in a delivery, it is more likely that current school regulations won’t allow for you (or us) to be there in-person to interact with the students. If this is something you are passionate about, make sure to talk with your Shoes That Fit team member when setting up your fundraiser.

Can I raise funds to provide a non-school organization that serves children with shoes (Boys and Girls Clubs, youth development programs, etc.)?

We work primarily with schools, but are happy to talk with you about your goals on a case-by-case basis. As long as the shoes are going to children in need, it will align with our mission. Please note that we do not provide shoes directly to individuals or families.

Can I fundraise for individuals or families in need?

Our program works directly through schools and other accredited organizations that serve school-aged children to provide shoes to kids. We do not provide shoes directly to individuals or families.

What about socks?

We agree! What about socks?! We happily include socks with shoes when the funds are available. We are able to source good quality socks through our partners at roughly $5 for 5 pairs—just let your Shoes That Fit team member know if you are interested in this.

Does this program help internationally?

We currently focus on helping children in the United States—the need is so great, and there is so much work here to do.

You can help kids attend school with joy, dignity, and confidence. Make a lasting difference today!
