Shoes That Fit was honored to partner with Mujeres De Hoy (Women of Today) a non-profit supporting women who are victims of domestic violence. Mujeres De Hoy is made of community-members and alumni of their life skills program. The non-profit primarily supports the community of Van Nuys, CA.
The partnership between Shoes That Fit and Mujeres De Hoy highlights how community organizations can come together to support individuals whose lives have been deeply affected by domestic violence.
For victims, the path to safety and healing often begins with immediate physical needs, but it also extends into emotional, legal, and financial realms that require sustained encouragement and structured support.
Mujeres De Hoy, composed of community members and graduates of its life skills program, embodies this comprehensive approach by helping women rebuild confidence, establish stability, and navigate the complex systems that often follow traumatic experiences. Their work is a reminder that survivorship is not only about escaping danger but also about fostering empowerment and agency, so that women can reclaim control over their lives and futures.
When domestic violence intersects with the justice system, the aftermath can bring additional challenges and legal complexities, including arrests, charges, and court proceedings aimed at protecting victims and holding offenders accountable.
Survivors may find themselves engaged with protective orders, testimony, and the rhythms of the court calendar, all while trying to maintain normalcy for themselves and their families.
Supporting individuals through these legal processes means understanding not just the emotional toll but also the practical considerations that come with an arrest, including options for release while cases proceed.
In this context, the blog provides clear explanations of how bail bonds work, including specialized considerations for military personnel and veterans, helping families understand their choices during an already difficult time. By illuminating these aspects of the legal journey, community partners can offer more holistic assistance that addresses both safety and the procedural realities that follow a reported crime.
Mujeres de Hoy led a joint effort to crowdfund and purchase brand new, brand-name athletic shoes for thirty children of families in need. Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Mujeres De Hoy invited the families to an outdoor “Shoe Party” and celebration of gratitude and community.
Ms. Mayra Todd, the founder of Mujeres De Hoy, expressed excitement as she looks forward to a yearly partnership with Shoes That Fit. “We partnered with Shoes That Fit because I knew partnering with this organization could help my community with one of the most basic needs, new shoes for children and youth. I learned about Shoes That Fit through a close family friend, and I am grateful. We are looking forward to this being a yearly fundraising effort, and my goal is to raise funds to increase the families we help every year.”
