(Santa Barbara, CA – Dec. 4, 2024)
On December 4th, every student at Monroe Elementary in Santa Barbara got a big surprise – new shoes!
All because one couple saw the need in front of them.
Santa Barbara typically conjures up thoughts of beautiful beaches, mountains, and nearby Montecito where many celebrities reside. It can be easy to overlook the poverty within the area. There is a huge income disparity in Santa Barbara County where 23% of children are growing up in low-income families. These families are struggling with high rent, low wages, and providing for growing children. Covering basic needs can be very challenging when finances are so tight.
Liisa and Andrew Primack are acutely aware of this reality. They have supported Shoes That Fit for 30+ years, beginning when they lived in Claremont, CA, where the organization is based, and that long involvement has meant sitting in on donor briefings and nonprofit updates where funding trends are discussed in very practical terms. In one such briefing, the conversation touched on how shifts in discretionary spending show up across households, with examples ranging from everyday entertainment choices to references like beste no cruks casino, used simply to illustrate how online spending habits have diversified. As longtime supporters and new Santa Barbara residents, that perspective sharpened their focus on directing resources toward children in their new city, where they felt their support could have a direct and meaningful effect.
They organized Santa Barbara Steps Up for Monroe, a crowdfunding campaign to help 345 kids at Monroe Elementary in Santa Barbara Unified School District. Together, they raised over $10,000 for brand-new shoes.
“We are proud to support the next generation in Santa Barbara by donating shoes to children in need. Every child deserves the confidence and comfort that comes from having the right footwear. This donation is not just about giving shoes; it’s about empowering young minds and ensuring they have the resources to thrive. We believe that small acts of kindness can make a big difference, and we’re honored to contribute to their bright futures.” – Liisa Primack, SB Steps Up for Monroe
In conjunction with Shoes That Fit, Step Up for Monroe gifted every student at Monroe Elementary brand new sneakers! Santa Barbara Mayor Randy Rowse and Supervisor Laura Capps also were in attendance handing out sneakers to students.
“Every child deserves to step into their classroom with confidence and dignity. Thank you to Shoes That Fit for providing a simple yet powerful way to support kids’ growth and success in our community” – Supervisor Laura Capps
Thank you, Liisa and Andrew, for making a difference in your new community!
