This fall, students in Virginia and Illinois received brand-new athletic shoes thanks to community initiatives led by My Brother’s Keeper and Chicago Bears linebacker Tremaine Edmunds. My Brother’s Keeper—a foundation created by NFL brothers Terrell, Tremaine, and Trey Edmunds—remains committed to giving back to children, especially in their hometown of Danville, VA.
On October 28th, Tremaine Edmunds brought excitement to Lindop Elementary School in Broadview, IL, where he and team mascot Staley da Bear handed out brand-new athletic shoes to more than 311 students. The generosity continued on November 5th, when over 480 students at Arnett Hills Elementary School in Danville, VA, received new sneakers as part of the brothers’ ongoing mission to support and uplift young people in their community.
Students at Arnett Hills were surprised with the new shoes before classes began. Cheers broke out as students learned every child from kindergarten through 5th grade would be getting a fresh pair of sneakers—Nikes, Adidas, Reeboks, and more.
“We decided to do Shoes That Fit because our boys love shoes. Really, what child wouldn’t love a brand new pair?”
Cookie Edmunds, who also teaches gym at Arnett Hills, helped spark the idea and organize the event.
“It’s just a blessing to receive something new—an unexpected surprise. Arnett Hills has done so much for my family, and we wanted to give something special back.”
Distributing hundreds of pairs was no small task, but teachers made the process smooth by measuring each student’s shoe size ahead of time.
“It shows these kids that people who go on to do great things—like these NFL players—don’t forget where they come from. Hopefully, one day, they’ll be inspired to give back too.”

As an added bonus, teachers and staff also walked away with new shoes of their own!
