Over 600 kids at Payne STEAM Academy in Inglewood got a fun surprise on May 21.

Not only did they get a visit from Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas, they also got new shoes!

It's the first of three giveaways across LA funded by a grant from the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation. The next two will take place in August during Dodger Days in Huntington Park and Long Beach.

Dodgers shortstop Miguel Rojas – also known as Miggy Ro – handed out new shoes to the kids.

He shared:

“To do something like this, it fills my heart with a lot of love and a lot of joy.”

“Our work doesn’t just end when the ball game ends. We are people who like to support the community, and today we are giving a new pair of shoes to kids who deserve it, who need it.”

The kids also got new Dodgers tees and caps. And to top it all off – the Dodgers Foundation gave each student tickets to a Dodgers game!

Thank you, Dodgers Foundation, for bringing new shoes and the joy of baseball to kids across LA!

“These are very difficult times. Parents don't have enough to buy their children a pair of sneakers. It helps the community a lot, to motivate them, to make the children happy. I appreciate this gesture of choosing us, we feel very privileged that they have chosen this school.” – Samuel Martinez, Teacher, Payne STEAM Academy
