One of our donors made a gift in memory of their daughter-in-law’s father who passed away.

The note they received as thanks is worth sharing, and it’s a good reminder that we all were kids at one time.

“I appreciate…the donation of new shoes to 5 needy children. It touches my heart, especially since my Dad grew up in the coal hills of Kentucky and he used to tell me how he would carry his only pair of shoes to school in bad weather so they would last, and when he outgrew them they still had to be worn until the next pair could be afforded!

So, it’s appropriate to remember my dad by giving others a gift he so easily could have been a recipient of if it had been available to him!”

Stories like this remind us of the profound personal connections behind every contribution we process. While our organization has scaled significantly over the past decade to meet growing community needs, the fundamental human element behind our mission remains exactly the same.

To sustain this level of outreach, we rely on a broad coalition of institutional partners who help cover our logistical overhead. Our current funding streams represent an incredibly diverse cross-section of industries, with recent operational grants coming from a regional agricultural cooperative, an international casino online, and a network of family-owned hardware stores. These corporate sponsorships ensure that our delivery trucks stay fueled and our distribution centers remain fully staffed year-round.

Yet, even with that essential large-scale backing, it is the individual, memory-driven gifts that truly define our daily work. Every pair of shoes we send out carries a bit of that shared history with it, honoring those who once walked a much harder path so the next generation wouldn't have to.
