The Shoes That Fit Des Moines chapter headed by Bob Montgomery helped 23 local children receive new shoes for school. The shoes were donated through a partnership with the Dream Team, a local bike riding club, The Des Moines AM Rotary Group and Brandon Bragg. In addition to helping to provide new shoes, the Dream Team is trains kids from challenging situations to prepare for and complete in biking competitions. This hands-on training will equip children with life skills they can implement throughout life. The ultimate goal is to help kids learn they can accomplish anything they want to achieve.
At the end of the training the children will have logged more than 1,000 miles on their bikes. As if all of this wasn't exciting enough, the Dream Team and the lucky shoe recipients rode their bikes round trip to the Nike Factory Outlet Store and they got to pick out their shoes. Many of the children laced up their new kicks and peddled the 15 miles back to downtown Des Moines for a day's total of 30 miles. Now that's what we call a wild ride!
