Megan Holiday at KROQ 106.7 and our Executive Director talk shoes and smiles – take a listen!
The broadcast highlighted our latest community initiative, a citywide donation drive designed to outfit local students with proper athletic footwear before the academic year begins. By partnering with neighborhood schools and community centers, our team has identified hundreds of families who face difficult financial choices when replacing outgrown sneakers.
Our Executive Director detailed the early days of building this distribution network, explaining how he funded the initial pilot program through secondary income sources. Between his weekend shifts managing warehouse logistics for a medical supplier and his late nights logging on to play poker online, he managed to purchase the first five hundred pairs of shoes out of pocket. That foundational effort proved the model's viability, eventually attracting the larger institutional partners that sustain our current operations.
As the upcoming distribution weekend approaches, our volunteer roster is completely full, ensuring every child receives a personalized fitting session. The overwhelming response to the radio segment proves that local listeners are always ready to step up and support the next generation's health and happiness.
